29 Jun Den Building at Holy Apostles’ Preschool
Den Building Week at Playgroup 26th June 2017
This week, at Holy Apostles’ Playgroup, we are den-building and donating money to Save the Children. The children have been learning about the importance of shelter and how different countries may encounter problems such as hurricanes or earthquakes, which can damage houses. They were very excited when they saw the huge boxes, tubes, sheets and pegs that had been donated by their parents. We decorated a collection box and made a poster to remind parents why we are den-building and where we are sending their donated money.
Ben decided his initial design needed an extension, and an aerial for essential contact!
Charlie decided to peg his sheets to convert the slide into a tunnel. He then whizzed down and popped out at the bottom!
Elsie listened carefully to Florence’s instructions to ‘thread her string into the box’. The den building experience provides great opportunities to problem solve, test out ideas and find new ways to do things. All these aspects give children the opportunity to demonstrate the characteristics of effective learning.
Albert, Eash and Joshua worked hard to develop their prototype car! Albert was concerned that the trailer was securely attached. The boys demonstrated co-operative play and used their initiative to work out how to construct their car selecting their materials and joining them together.
Everyone joined in making it a great team building activity. Let’s hope we raise lots of money for Save the Children!
