03 Nov Autumn Activities at Holy Apostles’ Pre-school in October 2022
The pre-schoolers have had a fun-packed half term making the most of the autumn sunshine filled with autumn activities for preschool.
Discover the autumn activities our preschoolers took part in:
We introduced our topic by talking about Harvest and the festival we celebrate in church.
The children brought in lots of gifts which they knew were going to be given to the Cornerstone Cupboard for onward sharing with the local community.
Elsie and Arlo added their gifts to the harvest table; Rev. Collishaw transported them for us to Cornerstone. A big thank you to Holy Apostles’ pre-school parents!
Our next activity involved developing our large motor skills by hammering tees into a pumpkin!
We used a real mallet and counted how many tees we had hammered in before lifting the pumpkin to decide if it was light or heavy!
Ava and Danielle display their control with the mallet whilst Sophia lifts her pumpkin with a smile
After our pumpkin fun we took turns in the mud kitchen.
The pre-schoolers had opportunities to collect their compost before mixing it with water and leaves to makes potions and pizzas “timing’ their mixtures in the microwave. The mud kitchen provides so many opportunities for learning across the curriculum. Best of all it provides opportunities for lots of sharing and talking with each other.
Even the youngest members of the group can join in! The children learnt they needed to be “booted and suited” in order to fully enjoy their mud experience!
Evelyn helps herself to compost ready to make her concoction and Jasmine and Olyve are mixing mud soup!
Our next Autumn activity for the preschool involved a walk across the field in front of our pavilion in order to forage for natural materials.
The pre-schoolers commentated on the beautiful colours that the leaves are turning and decided that they would like to use the leaves to make Autumn pictures with card and glue and chose to do this activity outside!
Everyone was eagerly collecting their leaves in readiness for their creative activity. Here you can see the concentration and creativity from the children enhanced by completing the activity outside.
Our last activity before half term was an exciting trip to the outdoor classroom!
As we walked across the field we acted out the story of The Bear Hunt complete with actions; staff had hidden a small bear to be discovered whilst we were in the outdoor classroom.
The pre-schoolers explored the whole area and Olyve and Jasmine could be seen playing imaginary games that they brought from their own mud kitchen experience at pre-school. Much fun was had by Jack running through the willow arch and finding the bear!
Here Tommy looks as if he is casting a spell with a very large stick wand and Olyve rounded off her experience with a swing in the hammock pushed by her friends!
